The British Red Cross has launched an appeal to aid tens of thousands of people affected by a severe earthquake that devastated areas of Pakistan and India on 8 October. As many as 19,000 people are feared dead and some 40,000 were injured by the quake, which measured 7.6 on the Richter scale.
The epicentre was close to Muzaffarabad, the capital of Pakistani-administered Kashmir, which lies some 95 kilometres north of Pakistan
