Hair advice for the summer

Denise Winterbourne of Adam & Eve, Wokingham, continues her hair advice column, looking closely at the need to ensure your care gets the very best of attention when spending time under the summer sun and in and out of the pool at home or abroad.

Not many women go without colour of some form or another and I am always asked how to maintain the colour and condition in those sunny months, whether it be at home or abroad on a Caribbean beach somewhere (Oh lucky them!)
The most important advice for summer hair is protect, protect, protect! With the help of the premium range of hair products by Wella, System Professional (www.system-professional.com) it could not be easier. They have a range of products specifically for hair and skin 'from sunshine to sunset'.

The SUNSHINE range:
*Anti-ray Lotion SPF15 is a water-resistant spray which has UV-filters to not only protect your hair, but your scalp and parting too. So you guys have no excuse for sore red heads! And it really does the trick; a lot of men buy this time and time again.
*Colorsafe Fluid is a fantastic cream to apply to condition and protect your coloured locks. It boasts up to 79% more colour protection against untreated hair and is again water-resistant.

The SUNSET range:
*Refresh Shampoo will remove residue from sun creams, chlorine and sea water as well as rebuilding the hairs inner structure, unlike the anti chlorine shampoos in the supermarkets, whilst adding moisture and shine too. All good don't you think?
*Express Cream is a fantastic intensive conditioner with those lovely ingredients marine collagen and vitamin complex that our hair really loves.
*Relax Fluid is a leave in treatment not only for hair, but skin too.

Be very careful if you have bleached hi-lights before entering a pool which is heavily chlorinated. It may turn a shade of green! My advice to anyone would to have your colour done two weeks prior to your holiday and a deep conditioning treatment carried out in the salon at that time to lock colour in and stop any further oxidation of lightening services.
Salt water will not affect your hair as harshly, but will make it feel rough and tangled until you shampoo the salt and sand from it. So once again I refer to the Wella products on the website listed above. We spend time and money on our skin in the heat and sunshine, our hair should not be neglected.

I hope you take my advice, but more than that make sure you thoroughly enjoy yourselves on the beach, by the pool or wherever your summer break takes you and your family and friends.
