Dining out is wonderful, the numerous reviews elsewhere on this site indicate my love of the culinary world, regardless of barriers of borders, I love eating out. No matter what the cuisine, Indian, Italian, English or all points east and west, bad breath can be a lasting consequence if care is not taken to combat the after effects on my breath?

The effects can be disastrous if not recognized and addressed.

Over the festive period I visited a number of restaurants on successive evenings and gave this very important health aspect considerable thought, seeking the ideal solution to bad breath. I contacted the Pr department of RetarDEX who kindly sent me a selection of the products to try and provide the ideal solution.

The samples came with the following message, effective, to the point and for those of us who enjoy our food and wine, thought provoking.

‘Let’s face it – smelly breath isn’t nice! But so many of us suffer from it – and don’t even realise!! Think about it for a minute – would you tell a friend they had bad breath? It’s a fact that 9 out of 10 of us suffer from bad breath at one time or another.
And bad breath can have more far-reaching repercussions than making us feel smelly or dirty. Bad breath can have a detrimental effect on important things in our life including relationships with family, friends, partners and even colleagues.

Check your breath is in the clear today. A handy tip is to lick the inside of your wrist and let it dry – if it doesn’t smell too fresh, then neither does your breath! But don’t worry if this is the case, we’ll soon have your mouth back in tiptop condition.

Even the cleanest mouth harbours odour-inducing Volatile Sulphur Compounds (VSCs), which are constantly being produced by the natural breakdown of bacteria in the mouth. Ensuring you’ve properly brushed your teeth and used a mouthwash will help, but most mouthwashes merely mask odours with strong minty smells rather than destroying the problem-causing bacteria.

RetarDEX Oral Rinse, Spray and Toothpaste, however, have the unique patented ingredient Closys II, which is clinically proven to break down and destroy these bacteria, leaving your breath smelling fresh.’

I had only ever used a mouth spray before, a mint flavoured spray, often used after strong garlic flavours or curry flavours had dominated the meal. It had little or no effect, with wife and children often aware of what I had eaten when out with friends before I showed them the menu, and letting me know.

The three products provided me with a trio of alternatives, a mouth rinse, toothpaste and a spray. The spray was used at the end of the meal so that the journey home in the car was free of memories of the meal, other than the pleasurable ones. The mouth rinse was used at night after brushing my teeth to clear any remaining traces of the flavours and spices whilst the toothpaste was used either at night after a strongly spiced meal or in the morning when lunch with friend was on the menu.

It certainly provided me, a food and travel writer, with that veritable ‘ring of confidence’, so instead of keeping my mouth closed for fear of the consequences for others I am more than a little happy to sing the obvious praised of my latest best friends.

My spray is still going strong, a little spray goes a long way, and it travels with me to each and every restaurant visit.

RetarDEX Oral Rinse costs £4.99 (250ml) and £7.95 (500ml) and is available from Boots, Superdrug, Waitrose, Morrisons, and selected Sainsburys, Tesco, Asda and all good pharmacies and dental surgeries.

RetarDEX Toothpaste costs £7.95 (75ml) and is available from Boots, Waitrose, Morrisons, and selected Sainsburys, Tesco, Asda and all good pharmacies and dental surgeries.

RetarDEX Oral Spray costs £2.99 (8.3ml) and is available from Boots, Superdrug, Waitrose and selected Sainsburys, Tesco, Asda and all good pharmacies and dental surgeries.
