I was invited to make a visit to the Camberley branch of this group of cook shops based throughout Berkshire and Surrey to see first hand the distance the chain has travelled over recent years, with five shops and an ever expanding online operation for all things kitchen related. And in that first visit I was able to see first hand the immense passion and enthusiasm from the engine room of the growing operation, owner Gary.


I was introduced to their range of products, as well as spending some considerable time in the purpose made showroom above the shop in the centre of busy Camberley. It was here where I was shown a selection from the Cristel range of French cooking utensils, with glowing recommendations from my two learned culinary advisers.

We had been discussing stir fry food and it was suggested that in the interests of research, we should adopt a Cristel non stick wok to see how it would change our lives, or rather the life of my wife, dominant chef within the McColm household, and in particular a great fan of stir fry cooking. This wok, with detachable handle for the base and another for the glass lid, was described as imperious, without equal, and was brought home to be put to the test, with a selection of stir fry ingredients to be tested over the following few weeks.

The first thing I noticed about the wok when it was being inspected prior to use was the weight, a solid and impressive piece of kitchen equipment, the detachable handles clicking into place in a similar manner to that well known German car advert. They are built for use, built to last and certainly impressive to the eye.
