Yang Sing

Any food critics comments regarding this restaurant must include the words fantastic restaurant, after all not only do I think this is heaven, found in Manchester, but the ever expanding list of awards the Yang Sing has collected ensure its position on the highest roll of honour within the restaurant industry. Most visitors to the restaurant would agree with the Yang Sing being described as truly the best in Britain. The restaurant was first awarded a position in the Good Food Guide in 1981, four years after opening and has been collecting customers and awards ever since.

The Set Menu as well as the A La Carte menus offer all the dishes you'd expect and a number you may not have encountered, one of the great things about this restaurant is the variety, the history and the feeling that you, as the diner in this Manchester centre of Oriental cuisine. Starve yourself for at least a day before you visit, only with this mental and physical preparation will you be able to do justice to a visit to the spiritual home of Chinese food within this country, I speak from personal experience.

Sizzling dishes are very popular dishes within the restaurant, usually beef or chicken but others are available, the staff bring the cooking dish to your table and sizzle it in front of you creating a huge cloud of steam and sufficient sound to attract attention from surrounding tables, part of the overall Yang Sing cabaret; the staff play regular central roles, revelling in the attention when the sizzling floor show is in full flow, adding background noise to the animated sounds and chatter among the table of contented diners enjoying themselves in Princess Street, Manchester, original home to the restaurant before a major fire in 1997 forced their temporary move elsewhere. Two years later they returned to their spiritual home in Princess Street and have continued to satisfy thousands of diners each and every week.

The food is well, no, beautifully presented, well cooked, tastes as good as it looks, is delicious and relative to many restaurants attractively priced. The ambience is excellent, in keeping with the restaurants style and position within the industry. The wine list is solid, if short of spectacular. Perhaps the best indication of how good a place this is the number of Chinese customers there are, as well as continental visitors attracted by the vibrant nature of modern Manchester and the very best cuisine the city can offer.
