Barajee

Barajee in Birmingham
265 Broad Street,
Birmingham, B1 2DS
0121 643 6700

Birmingham in mid March, a city swelled with athletes and interested onlookers for the World Indoor Championships and one with a new jewel in the restaurant crown that continues to be developed in Brindley Place and Broad Street.

In a perfect position overlooking the redeveloped canal adjoining the attractive Brindley Place Restaurant Barajee is a modern classical Indian restaurant with a fresh, modern and attractive interior, professional staff and a warm and friendly environment in which to enjoy absolutely exquisite food.

Owner Moula Miah, entrepreneur and award winning visionary Indian restaurant owner in the Birmingham area, joined us to savour the delights of this latest addition to an ever expanding restaurant empire, justifiably proud of the style, design and standards within this latest venture. His beaming broad smile reflected his view of Barajee, the proud father keen to encourage others to view the latest addition to the family.

Warm colours with a collection of modern art adorn the walls of this comfortable and spacious restaurant. A particularly attractive feature is the layout, designed to allow privacy for diners, allowing space between tables, whilst retaining a atmosphere of relaxed dining. High backed cushioned chairs ensure the luxury of complete comfort, together with spacious tables allowing any additional dishes to be accommodated without any difficulty.

Classic neatly ironed white tablecloths with polished glasses, complemented by black serving plates present an attractive backdrop to any meal, let alone one decorated to the standards of Barajee. Ultra modern cutlery, metallic napkin rings with matching stainless steel vases resplendent with modern, stylish flowers add to the visual delights before the menu has even been delivered to the table.

The menu was clear, the descriptions appropriate, offering suggestions and guidance where required, together with the professional support of the waiting staff who offered the same, support for those requiring guidance in their selection, with appreciation for those who know and understand their way through such extensive and appetising choices of Indian food.

Anarosi Chingree Corn, whole king prawns, marinated with Tandoori spices, barbequed and garnished with pineapple corn leapt from the menu as my chosen starter, with Emma selecting Shabzi Singara, deep fried savoury pastries, and Prawn on Puri, slightly spiced prawns, onions, tomatoes and herbs served on a pancake chosen by Jamie. Of course we tasted each others dishes, one of the great joys of dining with friends or family in a relaxed environment. The taste, style and pleasure from each of the starters was jointly savoured, murmurs of appreciation from all concerned, supported by the waiters, keen to hear yet more positive complements about the food produced by the chef and his team.

Main courses included Jhall Murgh, succulent chicken slices, marinated with tandoori spices and cooked with garam massala, cumin, mango chutney, green herbs, yoghurt and chillies, Lamb Jalfrezi, marinated and roasted lamb in a spicy sauce of onion, capsicum, fresh ginger, green chillies and coriander leaves, served with spring onion and a dash of cumin dressing with green chilli and coriander. To balance our choice of dishes to share between us we also selected Monk Machari, healthy select portions of monkfish, cooked in olive oil, with garlic and bay leaves, simmered in a spiced tomato brut and served with pilau rice. We also selected a range of accompanying vegetables, a veritable feast of gold medal Indian cuisine.

With a selection of Indian beers and lagers, and boasting a wine list to match most tastes, including my own, priced to attract customers, the restaurant offers customers everything required for a memorable visit, a meal to savour and surrounding luxury and comfort with a view to die for.

The verdict?

The food, absolutely stunning, the level of service highly polished and the overall atmosphere within the restaurant comfortable, welcoming and relaxed. Moula Miah has achieved great success in his Solihull Rajnagar restaurant, the Restaurant Barajee is an even greater polished gem in the Birmingham crown, right at the very heart of this bright and vibrant city.

With this location, overlooking Brindley Place, close to the NIA, ICC and Symphony Hall booking a table at this is not an option, it is a requirement.
