Don Beni restaurants are taking over the world, or at least the lovely part of the country I live in, not that I am in any way complaining. The success of the restaurant is reflected in the fact that there are eight of them dotted in the fashionable parts of Berkshire, Bucks and Surrey. The most recent is in Wokingham and it is soon to celebrate the second anniversary of its opening.
Sergio, the flamboyant driving force behind the chain, proudly showed the developments in this restaurant, with a brand new courtyard addition to the nearly hundred seats inside the restaurant, underlining the popularity of this stylish and bustling ambassador of Italy.
It is not a quiet restaurant, far from it but that is certainly not a negative factor. The open plan kitchen ensures the dialogue between chefs and waiters is heard, not overheard. The waiters are real characters, with Sergio leading from the front with his style, charm and character. This particular restaurant was a series of town cottages, converted with sympathy and style to provide an old style feel to the surroundings, with plenty of natural light on one side and close views of the energetic chefs in action.
