Eating by Design
In order to survive in a competitive market, new restaurants must offer a complementary mix of good food, attractive surroundings and convivial atmosphere. This is why restaurateurs turn to designers to create the perfect package, says Dominic Bradbury.

Food aside, the look of a place can make or break a restaurant. What is on the plate might be perfection itself, but if the surroundings are shabby and uncomfortable, few will be tempted through the door to taste it again.
Good design grabs your attention, and makes you feel you are somewhere special. It is at the heart of the whole experience of eating out, just as much as the succulent wild mushroom risotto, the perfect Vino Nobile, and the smiles on the faces of the staff. From the colour of the walls to acoustics that don't require you to yell, the god of a good restaurant is detail.
